We would like to say a big Congratulations to Professor Frank Casey who will become the first Clinical Professor for the All Island CHD Network. This means Prof Casey will be leading a unique and exciting new programme developing research in the field of Congenital Heart Disease with the two N.I universities (Ulster University and Queens University Belfast) and in partnership with an equivalent programme in ROI.
We are really looking forward to working with Prof Casey on this research programme, but unfortunately this new commitment also means that he will be stepping down from his clinical role with Clark Clinic and transferring the care of many of his long term patients to other members of the team. It’s not quite a retirement as Prof Casey will still be inputting into the service, but we would like to take this opportunity to thank him for over 26 years as consultant paediatric cardiologist with Clark Clinic.
Prof Casey has led the paediatric cardiology service through huge changes, especially in the past decade, with immense integrity and commitment to the children and family he cares for. His leadership has been at the heart of developing the new All Island CHD service. However, we know he will be most missed by heart families for his kindness, compassion and wonderfully caring nature. So many families tell us that at a moment of despair or crisis, Prof Casey’s words gave them reassurance and comfort when they needed it most.
He will be so missed on the ward and at outpatients but we are delighted that heart children and families will continue to benefit from his expertise and care in this new role. Prof Casey will be transitioning to this new role over the next few months and will be continuing with clinics over this period.
