Birmingham Children's Hospital
Birmingham Children’s Hospital is located in the city centre with easy access to public transport and shops if you need to stock up on essentials while away from home.
“The week before Christmas was when we got the news about her condition, and we were flown to Birmingham Children’s Hospital for her first open heart surgery. CHT helped us so much with funding to get us through.”

About Birmingham Children's Hospital
Once you have received a date for surgery, a member of the travel team from the Belfast Health and Social Care Trust (BHSCT) will get in touch with you to pass on details of your travel arrangements. BHSCT will arrange and pay for return flights and accommodation for your child and two adult escorts.
The hospital provides parent accommodation within the hospital. However, BHSCT will try to get you a room in the Ronald McDonald House adjacent to the hospital, which feels like a home from home.
Wards 11 & 12 are cardiac wards. If your child is under one year old, they will most likely be moved to Ward 11 when transferred from PICU, and if your child is older, they will most likely move to Ward 12. Ward 12 has a large playroom called “The Den”, and both wards have a room for parents and carers to take some time out and make a cuppa or something to eat.
