Our bereavement groups are for parents that have lost a child to congenital heart disease. These groups give you the opportunity to meet other heart parents that can relate to what you are going through.
From speaking to bereaved heart parents, it was clear to us that we could offer more support at a time when we are needed most. Through feedback from our parents, and in conjunction with professionals, we have started our first support group for bereaved parents. We currently have one bereavement group running in Derry/Londonderry and another starting in Lisburn before Summer 2018.
Our bereavement groups are supported by Aisling McAleese – Clinical Psychologist attached to Clark Clinic. It is important to highlight that these groups are not structured group therapy. Rather, they provide a safe space and a friendly environment to grieve and celebrate your child with people that can really understand how you are feeling.
We understand that coming along to a group can be a huge, scary step. We acknowledge how vulnerable you will feel and we understand these groups won’t be for everyone but you are always welcome to come and join us, there will be a cuppa and a warm welcome waiting for you.
